Reduced cost accommodation

At this time of year (end of September) the tourist season is winding down and many hotels and guest houses are willing to reduce their prices, particularly if in conjunction with some sort of package involving a stay of five or six days.

This is also the time of year when salmon are to be found in the Annan (at last!!) The salmon catch on the Annan doesn't appear very startling until you realise that about 97% of those fish are caught in the last six weeks of the season - in other words now!!

Put these two things together and you can probably get 5 or 6 nights accommodation together with 5 days fishing on the Annan at quite reasonable cost.

The following businesses are willing to provide the visiting angler with a variety of fishing/accommodation packages, one of which should suit you.

They are in order from North to South.

Marvig Guest House, Academy Road, Moffat, DG10 9HW. This is rather a nice Guest House on the main street in Moffat, which will do a package including fishing on one of the Upper Annandale Anglers four mile long beats at very reasonable cost. Annandale Arms Hotel, High Street, Moffat, DG10 9HF. Very nice hotel, very nice people, and just happens to be my local on a Tuesday night (Don't let that put you off, I don't usually get too noisy!!)

However if you contact them now and quote the River Annan Website, Simon and Margaret Tweedie who own the place are perfectly willing to be flexible about accommodation with a fishing package. So talk it over with them and they will make the necessary adjustments.

Red House Hotel, Wamphray, Moffat, DG10 9NF. This has been a fishing hotel for many years. It's about 200 yards from the Annandale Estates five miles of fishing on the Annan and about halfway between the Upper Annandale Anglers two four mile beats. Central Hotel, St. Johns Road, Annan. The Central, despite its name, is on a quiet backstreet in Annan. It is owned by Gordon Clark who also owns the famous Cleughhead beat on the Annan.
