AccommodationThis is very much a tourist area and there are hotels and B & B places everywhere. Depending on where you decide to fish you could stay in Moffat itself - I can recommend:- Annandale Arms Hotel (01683) 220013 (My local on Tuesday nights) Annandale Hotel website Star Hotel (01683) 220156. These are on the High Street in Moffat. On the Bed and Breakfast front I can highly recommend:- Mrs. Margerison, Morlich Guest House, Ballplay Road, Moffat, Tel. No. (01683) 220589 The Villa Mrs Forrester, Stratford House, Academy Road, Moffat, Tel. No. (01683) 220297 or across the street:- Marvig Guest House, Academy Road, Moffat, Tel No. (01683) 220628. If none of these ladies can take you they will pass you on to a friend - sort of friendly Moffat Mafia. Red House, Wamphray, MOFFAT, DG10 9NF. Now B & B instead of a hotel The Red House access is from the all purpose road
B.7076 north of Johnstonebridge. Cottage to let at Yettholme, Johnstonebridge. Take exit 16 from M.74, turn onto the B.7076 all purpose road beside the motorway and at the south end of Johnstonebridge turn west and then first left leaving the village past the school on your right. Follow that road for a mile or so and round a right angled bend at a farm and at the next junction on your left the first Cottage is Yettholme. For details call George or Sue on 01683 300057 or e mail spar@tesco.net Just south of Johnstonebridge also beside the B.7076 is Dinwoodie Lodge Hotel, Johnstonebridge, DG11 2SL Tel: 01576 470289 - nice meals but I literally have no idea about the accommodation, probably fine. Anthony Steel, Kirkwood, Dalton, Lockerbie, has holiday cottages to let. Check them out at Kirkwood Cottages. Realistically Anthony's cottages are about 10 minutes driving time from our Applegarth Beat. Should you need any further information ‘phone me, and if you need an update on river height etc. before setting off then ‘phone me again, my house overlooks the Upper Beat. |
